What is FIA Girls on Track - Rally School?
The FIA Girls on Track – Rally School project is an innovative initiative designed to significantly increase female participation in motorsport, specifically targeting the accessible and exciting discipline of rally. This project engages participants through a multifaceted approach that combines hands-on driving experiences, educational workshops, and involvement in event planning and officiating, ensuring a comprehensive immersion into the world of motorsport.
Where and when is the program taking place?
The event will take place at Rally School Brisbane (Ipswich), Willowbank, Queensland on Saturday 31 May, 2025.
Two sessions are available, one from 8am – 12pm and another from 12:30 – 4:30pm.
What is rallying?
Rallying is unique to motorsport as instead of racing other cars on a track, you’re competing against the clock.
A typical rally event features multiple stages, which are short high-speed courses typically set in a forest or gravel road. Your goal is to go from Point A to Point B in the quickest time possible.
It’s a full day of adventure, where you leave your home base – known as the Service Park. You’ll drive on public roads to get to your next destination, and you’ve got to safely get there on time too during what’s called ‘Road Sections’.
While each stage may range between as little as 4 kilometres long through to more than 20 kilometres, you’ll easily clock up 500 kilometres driving between Road Sections and competitive stages.
Because every stage is different, you’ll also rely on your passenger next to you – the co-driver. Their job is to read the road for you, telling you whether it’s left or right, the grade and distance of the corners coming up.
At this event, you will be learning the basics of rallying, there will be no competitive element of this event and the “stage” is a single dedicated track.
