Supercars to make history in second SMSP meet

Friday 08 October, 2021
The second Sydney Supersprint will have two night races.
Details for the second Sydney SuperNight have been revealed with two night races to be held across the two-day round.

In what will be a historic event for the Repco Supercars Championship, it will be the first time ever Supercars has held two races under lights within the same event at Sydney Motorsport Park, as well as just the fifth time in Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars history.

The only other times there have been multiple night races in the one round have been at Calder Park back in 1997, both of Supercars’ visits to Abu Dhabi in 2010 and 2011 and most recently in Perth back in 2019.

The format for the round has also been confirmed with a busy Saturday to include two 30-minute practice sessions and a standard knockout qualifying session to lead into the first night race.

On Sunday, two ARMOR ALL Qualifying sessions will set up the 125km race, which will conclude the second of four consecutive rounds at Eastern Creek.

In a major bonus for grassroots motorsport, two state-level championships will join Australia’s biggest championship as support categories for the historic weekend - the NSW Formula Ford and Production Touring Cars Championships.

A favourite around the country, Formula Ford has special ties to Supercars with a number of current drivers having graduated through the category including Will Davison, David Reynolds, Nick Percat, Chaz Mostert, Cameron Waters, Jack Le Brocq, Anton De Pasquale.

As for the NSW Production Touring Cars, the category combines an exotic mixture of Street Sedans and Saloon Cars with Supercars Eseries star Josh Muggleton one of the big names to run during the weekend.

Both support categories will enjoy two practice sessions, one qualifying session and three races.

While ticketing information will be released shortly, the round will be broadcast via Fox Sports and streamed live on Kayo, while the Seven Network will showcase highlights post-event.

The second Sydney SuperNight takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on 6-7 November.
