Three Australian drivers have been nominated for awards in the AIS Awards next month.
Motor fans are being given the opportunity to some of the best sporting moments from 2018, with three iconic motor personalities in line to be worthy winners.
The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has partnered with the ABC to host the annual AIS Sport Performance Awards, with a public vote now open for the ABC Personality of the Year and Best Sporting Moment categories.
Included in a who’s who of Australian sport, motor sport’s nominees are CAMS Ambassador Daniel Ricciardo, Craig Lowndes Will Power.
AIS Director Peter Conde says the two public choice award categories are a way for all Australians to join in and celebrate their love of .
“Discussing our athletes, performances and the weekend results is almost a national sport in itself,” Conde says.
“The AIS is proud to lead the Australian system because we know the national pride and inspiration generated by the and success of our Australian athletes.
“We celebrate gold medals, world records, premierships triumphs, but we also place a tremendous value on traits such as sportsmanship and inclusiveness - these make sport such an important experience in shaping our communities.”
Motor sport is represented across both categories, with Daniel Ricciardo’s Monaco win and Will Power’s Indy 500 victory both nominated for ‘Best Sporting Moment while retiring Supercars legend Craig Lowndes is nominated for the ABC Personality of the Year award.
