Stephen Oxley and Michael Wood have produced a stunning four-stage winning streak to take out the Light Car Club of WA’s 2018 Gravel RallySprint in the forests of Mundaring.
Behind the wheel of the Subaru Impreza STi, the pair finished the five-stage rally sprint with a final time of 28 minutes and 33 seconds, more than half a minute ahead of fellow Impreza pilots in Barry McGuinness and Glenn Alcorn.
In what ended up being a performance from Oxley and Wood, it was McGuinness and Alcorn who drew first blood, winning the first stage by four seconds before Oxley and Wood took out the second stage by five seconds.
From then on, Oxley and Wood dominated the 13-car field, finishing the remaining three stages comfortably ahead of their closest rivals to take out the event as well as the 4WD class.
Despite a disappointing third stage from McGuinness and Alcorn, which saw them finish third outright, the WRX pair recovered in the final two stages to secure a well-earned runner-up finish.
Securing a top-three finish was Lee and Joanne Mcilroy, with the WRX pilots placing ensuring an all Subaru podium lockout, while Holden Commodore VS SS drivers Kiel Douglas and Greg Flood were the best of the rest, finishing fourth outright and claiming the 2WD class.
Behind the wheel of a Datsun 1200 coupe, Julian Wright and Jeff Huggins rounded out the top five as well as finishing second in 2WD class ahead of Nissan Silvia S13 drivers Alex White and Lisa White, who finished sixth outright.
