New South Wales based Cooma Car Club will once again close down the busy Mount Gladstone Road for their multiple climbs in what is expected to be an action-packed weekend.

The event will kick off with scrutineering on Saturday morning before special 'Come and Try’ runs for juniors aged 14-17 and other drivers wanting to test out the Mount Gladstone track take place.

While not officially timed or part of the event, The 'Come and Try’ runs are still integral to events, enabling participants to develop their skills alongside an instructor until they confident enough to complete the circuit solo.

Due to the club’s mantra of supporting junior driver’s participation and development, the aspiring teenagers only need to pay of fee of $30 to compete, allowing them to enter the event, use of a club car and  CAMS Speed Licence.

Following the ‘Come and Try’ will be the event’s classic hill climb, as competitors armed with vehicles manufactured in 1988 or older get a minimum of four attempts to tackle the course

Sunday will see more competitive action get underway as more than 30 drivers take on the open hill climb. A variety of vehicles ranging from road-registered 2WD production modified AWD vehicles and sports sedans are all set to take part.

Headlining the field is Daniel Burton, with the Honda S2000 pilot expected to be contending for the fastest time of the day against a variety of the Type 3 AWD favourites and Subaru WRX pilots in Simon Smith, Nick Coote and Gary , while Peugeot 206 GTi pilot Daniel Matthews will also be one to watch throughout the day.

With the event growing in popularity, club spokesman, Ian Hampton was confident in the circuit and the event as a driving factor to the club’s growth.

“A lot of people say it’s the second best hill climb in the state,” Hampton said.

“We have a really nice hill that is easy to drive when it’s not wet and although it’s not very technical, it’s a great track for power.”

Entries for all three hill climbs remain open until  on Friday 23 November 2018 AEDT.

There is no charge for spectators and family, with a courtesy shuttle bus from Cooma will run all day taking spectators from the bottom to the top and back again after each run.
