When WAP Motorsport celebrates 10 years in the service industry next month, owners Shaun and Maloney will consider themselves blessed to have been successful.
With the company first beginning merely as a hobby a decade ago, the pair couldn’t have dreamed of becoming so successful in such a short time.
“I believe the best word to describe our reaction in reaching our 10 year anniversary is actually shocked,” Shaun said.
“We’re still very young in this particular industry if you compare us to some of the other companies around, but we’ve come so far in those 10 years.
“We have not really thought of the next 10 years, we’re just enjoying the moment.
“All we can really hope for in the future is that we continue to keep our family safe while they enjoy their toys out on the track.”
The company first began in 2008 when Shaun purchased and redeveloped a fire and rescue business from the Kings to create his own business.
Following a rebrand, WAP signed on with five CAMS affiliated car clubs covering fire, rescue, recovery, track clean up and repair using their one and only vehicle.
Within the year, the company began to grow, doubling their as well as increasing their event presence to 45, with a handful of working at each event.
Their cost-effective all-in-one trackside service soon became well known within grassroots , with WAP continuing to expand and enhance the skills and knowledge of their crew.
While WAP’s early years of service were considered a hobby, its steady growth and service additions including tilt tray truck operators, clerk of and steward roles saw the sole trader form into a legitimate company.
In 2016 WAP had almost doubled their from the early years, with 86 attended events recorded throughout the year.
Fast forward to 2018 when WAP Motorsport celebrates their 10-year anniversary, the 20-crew- service company now manages 91 events for 30 different clubs across 119 days.
Despite reaching their goal as a major trackside service provider, Shaun believes the company has exceeded his own expectations.
“It’s actually funny because we usually describe to people that we are just getting paid to do a something that is like a hobby for us,” Shaun added.
“We never thought of WAP Motorsport as a real business because we feel like we’re apart of a big family.
“I think that is what has made us so successful and how we work, we have the attitude that we are looking after our motorsport friends and family in the good times and bad.”
