2018 CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Champion Jayden Ojeda has tested the fastest machinery he has ever sampled in his career – a Brad Jones Racing (BJR) Supercar.

Piloting the same car as fellow Australian Formula 4 graduate Jack Smith in this year’s Super2 Series, Ojeda was thrilled by the experience.

“It’s unreal… that first lap, I was just coming to grips with everything. The power is the big highlight, the big underscore,” Ojeda said.

“It’s a lot to get used to, there’s a lot of body roll, a lot more factors you’ve got to take into consideration. It’s an unreal feeling, I’m just really happy.”

Ojeda’s experience of analysing data with his AGI Sport team in Formula 4 was essential in his feedback with BJR engineers and mechanics, led by the highly credentialed Wally Storey.

“I feel like my engineer and I went in-depth into everything,” Ojeda said.

“To jump into a Supercar is another step forward, a lot of the stuff is pretty similar but a bit more enhanced. A lot more focus on throttle traces and corner exits, my work with AGI has helped me a lot to where I am now.”

“I’m enjoying the day. Brad Jones has setup an awesome group of cars, and awesome day. I can’t thank them and Formula 4 enough for an awesome opportunity.”

Team Principal Brad Jones was complimentary of Ojeda’s adaptation to both team and the Supercar, with the team-owner also testing a number of young drivers throughout the day.

“He’s (Ojeda) been going great. He fits in really well with the team and he’s got great pace,” Jones said.

“I think he has a very good understanding of what’s required in the car. His interaction with the engineers has been really good. He’s fitting in really well and it’s all going to plan.

“It’s always a great opportunity to give young guys a run in the car. I love these days. You’ve got that youthful enthusiasm and desire, they’re like sponges whatever information we give to them. These are really worthwhile days for me, I feel like we’re really giving something back.”

Though it was Ojeda’s first time in a Supercar, it was not his first aboard a tin-top – with Ojeda also sampling a Honda Civic TCR and a historic Formula 2 car in recent weeks.

The test with Brad Jones Racing was one of this year’s many championship prizes, with Ojeda now preparing to test a Toyota Racing Series car at Hampton Downs in New Zealand next week.

“That will be an awesome experience as well. It’s going to be pretty unreal to have a whiz in one of those cars,” Ojeda said.

“I’m looking forward to that. It’s been a busy couple of weeks for myself.”
