Australians Nick Foster and Tim Slade have had success on the global stage after claiming victory in the Intercontinental GT Challenge’s California 8 Hours.
Driving alongside Miguel Molina of Spain in the HubAuto Corsa prepared Ferrari 488 GT, the trio put on brilliant performance and led the 20-car field for a majority of the Laguna Seca based race.
With the team starting the weekend strong after making it through to the top ten of qualifying, Foster was handed Pole Shootout responsibilities, which he handled himself brilliantly and qualified on the second row.
When the race finally began, it was Molina who was in the hot seat for the Taiwanese team and the Spaniard moved into third straight off the bat before eventually picking off the front two cars to finish his stint off as leader.
Handing the car over to Slade, the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship regular continued the team’s domination and extended the lead to more than 20 seconds before Foster got his first chance in the car.
With the Ferrari almost a lap ahead of some cars, Foster showed composure during his stint and sustained the lead before Molina took over once again and cruised at the top of the field.
It was going so well for the team until the pit stop for Slade’s changeover where an equipment problem prolonged the Australian’s exit from the pits and the team lost the lead.
However, Slade was able to utilise his skills that has made him a strong driver back home and he eventually retook the lead from the Porsche 911 that had fallen by the wayside.
The last change was seamless and Foster was left in charge to bring the car home, which he did with ease, ending what had been a terrific performance from the trio.
“I’m stoked,” Foster said.
“We had a great car and pace today and went lights to flag flat out for this win. Tim, Miguel and the guys delivered a perfect race and a great car, which gave me the chance to push hard the whole time and get the win.
“I want to say thanks to the team, especially Morris [Team Owner] and Phil [Team Manager] for having the faith in me to firstly take pole position super pole and then to bring the car home. It means a lot.”
Finishing 15 seconds behind the winning Ferrari was the Maxi Buhk, Maxi Goetz and Raffaele Marciello piloted Mercedes-AMG GT3, while Mathieu Jaminet, Sven Müller and Romain Dumas in the Porsche 911 GT3-R rounded out the podium.
