Richard Perini has put on a masterclass at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit to dominate the second round of the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club’s 2019 Super Sprint Season. 

With 45 drivers competing for the fastest lap time across six sessions on the iconic circuit, Perini only needed two to post his winning lap time of one minute and 33 seconds, the Ginetta G55 pilot opting to sit out for the remaining four sessions after topping the charts. 

Incredibly, he posted both times within the same second in each sessions with his winning time only eight hundredths of a second faster than his first time.

The next fastest driver was Ben Schoots who posted his fastest time on the fourth session and was 10 seconds slower than the leader, the Toyota FT86 pilot’s time of one minute and 43 seconds comfortably securing second.

Rounding out the top three was Aaron Wheatley in a Holden Commodore as all three podium places were part of the Closed Racing Cars Over 2500cc class. 

The battle for fourth was significantly closer than the top three as only six hundredths of a second separated Andrew Gott and Daniel Petselis. 

Both drivers had solid starts to the day posting top five times in the opening two sessions, before Petselis and his Honda Civic drew first blood on the fourth lap to post his fastest time. In the same session, Gott steered his Porsche GT3 to the fourth fastest time six laps later. 

Behind the wheel of the Nissan Bluebird, Jon Pillekers finished sixth outright - a further two seconds behind, while Graham Bell recorded the seventh fastest lap time in his Ford Mustang in the next session.

However the most notable battle throughout the event was the battle for eighth as only one second separated five cars. A victorious Ben Styles guided his Lotus Exige to the eighth place, two hundredths of a second faster than Ford Falcon pilot Brenton Simpson in 10^th place. 

Outside of the competition side of the event, there was a brilliant show and shine display taking place on the Sunday, which featured a number of historical cars that fans were able to get up close and personal with.

The next round of the PIARC Super Sprint takes place on 22-23 June with karting also set to be part of the track schedule.
