Australian Caitlin Wood will have the whole of Australia behind her this weekend, as she represents Australia in the inaugural W-series at Hockenheim in Germany.

The series will act as a support category to the German Touring Cars Championship, the DTM Auftakt, and will begin with two 45-minute practice sessions on Friday.

The international series then has its first official qualifying session on Saturday morning local time before the inaugural race occurs later that afternoon.

While Wood and the other 17 drivers have been hard at work in preparation for the season opener, the series has been working hard in securing television rights around the globe.

For Australians wanting to tune in and support Wood from down under, coverage of the new category will be available on SBS via app and online.

With more than 60 drivers taking part in the first qualification stage earlier this year, Wood was one of four Australians to take part in qualification alongside Chelsea Angelo, Charlotte Poynting and Alexandra Whiteley.

Following two intense qualifying sessions in Austria and Spain, Wood was eventually selected as one of the lucky 18 to take part in the fully-funded series.

The single seater category will have a further five races take place throughout the year across Italy, Netherlands, England, Belgium and back in Germany.
