One of three Radical drivers attending the series’ season opener with the Shannons Nationals at Sydney Motorsport Park, Clare competed in two of the series rounds last year – the historic opening of The Bend Motorsport Park and the penultimate round at Sydney Motorsport Park.

However in his first season of racing, Clare ended up spending more time in the Radical Australia Cup (RAC), where he placed fifth outright – his best result being a runner-up in the category’s final round.

While Clare competed less with the APS, he grew quite fond of the mixed category and is keen to compete more in it against some of the talent more in 2019.

“I am very excited for this season,” Clare said.

“The Prototypes are terrific because it mixes the racing up due to the different styles and categories that are involved and it always exciting.

“Everything is different. There are some models that benefit from straight lines, where there are others are better in corners and turning.

“My plans are to take part in every round this year, as opposed to last year where I only took part in two. The series represents excellent value for money and the competition is fierce so I definitely want to do more.

“If I can keep up with the top end guys during each round then I will be really happy.”

Despite the category featuring less Radicals than other vehicles on the grid, Clare is content with his choice to drive a Radical, claiming the cost-effective car really tests the driver.

“I only joined last year and for me, the Radicals come at a price point and are really affordable,” Clare explained.

“The dynamics of the vehicle are such that it can give you a feel of what it would be like in faster vehicles. There are no driver aids, no APS and no track control. It has highly adjustable suspension, geometry and aero features.

"I really feel the car and the series is a combination of strategy, technology and stamina. An hour in one of those cars going hard makes you exhausted.”

With Clare enjoying a solid start to the 2019 season, where he finds himself fifth in the RAC after two rounds and second in theCAMS NSW Motor Race Championship SuperSports, the New South Welshman is not getting ahead of himself.

“Past performance is no indicator but I think every hour you spend racing improves your craft,” Clare added.

“I am not necessarily aiming to bring home a trophy but I certainly like winning so I will try hard and hope to do the best I can.”

The Nationals' season opener will be quite busy for Clare as he competes in both the Australian Prototypes Series and Radical Australia Cup during weekend.
