Shannons Nationals: Where they stand

With the second Shannons Nationals for 2019 taking place this weekend, CAMS/thenationals.com.au has a look at all the categories and who sits where.

Carsales TCR Australia Series

After a historic first round at Sydney Motorsport Park, the brand new carsales TCR Australia Series is well underway with another six rounds to go in the inaugural season.

HMO Customer Racing’s Will Brown is currently on top of the standings with a cool 122 points after claiming two wins and a third place in the opening round.

A further 12 points behind the Hyuandai i30 driver is Dylan O’Keefe in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta after securing two runner-up finishes behind the 2016 Formula 4 champion.

Rounding out the top three, nine points behind O’Keefe, is the round’s Astrontech Pole Position winner in Tony D’Alberto thanks to his two podiums in races one and two.

While Jason Bright is only four points behind D’Alberto and out of the top three, the Volkswagen Golf pilot holds the special record of being the first ever race winner in the new series.

CAMS Australian Endurance Championship

The CAMS Australian Endurance Championship holds its first round for the 2019 season with a further two rounds to take place later this year.

While it’s the season opener for the Championship, it will be the third round of the CAMS Australian GT Championship with all three endurance races contributing to the Championship.

Currently occupying top spot in the outright championship is reigning CAMS Endurance Champion Max Twigg after putting in a sensational display in March’s first round.

In second place, only 12 points behind, is round two winner and defending GT Champion Geoff Emery - the Audi pilot breaking Mercedes' stronghold over the competition.

Completing the three-way tie for this year’s title fight is Peter Hackett thanks to his two round podium places thus far.

Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge

The one-make series enters its third round for the year with the battle for the title already heating up, despite only being early in the season.

Round two winner Harri Jones comfortably sits on top of the Porsche summit after a brilliant second round in Sydney, as well as boasting the record of the only driver to be on the podium in every race.

A further 52 points is round one winner Max Vidau who will be kicking himself over the unfortunate DNF which spoiled his nice run of four consecutive wins.

Aaron Love and Ryan Suhle are enjoying their starts to tin top racing with the teenagers battling out in third and fourth outright, the former having a 12 point advantage despite Suhle winning a race in Sydney.

It’s been a brilliant start to the year for Sam Shahin, who sits in fifth place a further 26 points on the outright standings, as he heads into the third round with a very solid 100 point lead in the Pro Am class.

CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship

It’s been a solid return to the championship for Victorian Luis Leeds who holds a healthy 25-point lead at the top of the standings after two wins from two rounds.

Leeds has been in fine form so far and his domination over the competition showed in Sydney’s second round after the teenager picked up the fastest practice times, Castrol Pole Position and two race wins, losing only to Antonio Astuti and Ryan Suhle in the second race.

Astuti’s second race win for the year leapfrogged him above Suhle and Lochie Hughes in the standings into second spot, 12 points ahead the Burson Auto Parts Rookie of 2018 Hughes.

Only three points separate both Hughes and Suhle in fourth place as the pair look to continue their battle during this weekend’s double round where the season will most likely be determined.
