The Shannons Adelaide Rally has announced a new special one day rallysprint in October which will see competitors take on some of the same popular roads used in the South Australian based rally.
With interest in the South Australian rallying scene significantly increasing in recent years, the rallysprint is one of two tarmac events created to focus on growing the sport in the state.
Crews will tackle 50 competitive kilometres across 11 stages just outside the heart of Adelaide, driving in some of the city’s most picturesque locations such as Kangaroo Creek and Pinkerton Gully making it an attractive prospect for aspiring rally drivers.
Entries for the rallysprint are currently open with competitors having the option to compete in four categories being Tour, Spirit Tour, Challenge or the outright event.
Event spokesperson Tim Possingham believes the event will help motivated competitors get involved in the sport and act as a stepping-stone for bigger events.
“We are creating some critical mass in the Tarmac Rally scene in South Australia,” Possingham said.
“What we have heard from competitors is that they want to invest more in the sport in terms of upgrading vehicles, buying new vehicles and generally becoming more serious about the sport.
“In order to do this, we need more events for these people to take part in and that’s exactly what we have created.”
With the early bird closing at the end of the year and competitors having the opportunity to save $200 off the entry fee, Possingham was confident the event offers good value for money.
“We have already seen a flurry of entries, mostly as the early-bird pricing cuts off at the end of this month,” Possingham added.
“It’s great to see the market responding so positively. We have attempted to offer up this event at the most attractive price point possible.
“It’s a participant driven event that certainly doesn’t have the incredible fanfare attached to the Adelaide Rally, but what it does posses is amazing roads making it the perfect shakedown for the Shannons Adelaide Rally.”
The Adelaide Rallysprint takes place just outside the city of Adelaide on 6 October.
