Turning a Dart into a work of art
Sunday 28 July, 2019
D'Art: A film by Karl von Moller
Premiering in September, D’art is a documentary film that pays homage to the infamous Goggomobil Dart.
Made famous by a series of television commercials for the Yellow Pages in the 1990s with actor Tommy Dysart and wife Joan Brockenshire, the film features interviews with the pair including the Dart’s Australian designer Bill Buckle.
Amongst the several interviews with car enthusiasts and collectors is Jeff Brown, the son of Dr Joseph Brown who donated one of the largest privately owned collections of Australian art to the National Gallery of Victoria.
The documentary follows Brown and painter Robert Clinch as they transform a Dart into a canvas, with Clinch painting his signature paper darts on the car to create an Objet D’Art.
The car was unveiled in 2017 and has since been on tour of regional galleries across Australia.
