Daniel Day has completed a brilliant weekend at The Bend Motorsport Park after claiming the popular MCA Suspension South Australian Time Attack in style.
With more than 55 crews competing in the Time Attack, as well as a further 95 cars on display during the Show ‘n’ Shine, it was a weekend to remember as Day put on a show for the travelling crowd.
Throughout the five, 20-minute sessions, there were a healthy variety of cars spread across a number of categories including a national open class, club sprints and street classes.
Like he has in multiple club level events as of late, Day eventually proved too strong for his rivals, steering his Subaru Spec C to a fastest lap time of just under one minute and 57 seconds.
Only one other driver managed to break the two-minute barrier with Mark Rundle posting a lap time just one and a half seconds behind Day in his Mitsubishi Evo, while another Evo pilot in Simon Feil rounded out the podium a further three seconds behind.
While Day created the headlines with his victory, the event’s feel good story came in the form of Lee Partridge who grabbed the fastest time in the Pfitzner Perforamnce Gearbox Fastest RWD Trophy category.
Behind the wheel of the Nissan Blackbird S14, Partridge’s day appeared to be over on just the first lap of the first session when he was knocked out by a rival car and he ended up off the track.
As the sessions came and went, it was looking less and less likely that Partridge would get his opportunity to shine, but his impressive team managed to get the car on the road for the final stages of the final session, where after completing just one
warm up and one hot lap - Partridge posted the fastest time in his class.
At the conclusion of the event, SA Time Attack organiser Bill Zissopoulos was proud of the efforts of all of the event’s participants.
“It was a really good day and everyone who was involved has a lot to be proud of,” Zissopoulos said.
“A huge number of cars both classic and modern made the show and shine one to behold and the action on track was just as special.
“The drivers managed to get a lot of time and there was a large presence from all of our sponsors which is always positive.
“A big thanks to all the officials who helped put the event on, the spectators for coming out to support and drivers who took part in the event. A big congratulations is also in order for Daniel for winning the event.”
