Agathos eying Production Cars top prize

Dimitri Agathos is on track to claim the important MRF Tyres Team Award.
Ahead of the MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars’ (APC) third round at Queensland Raceway this weekend, new MRF Tyres Team Award leader Dimitri Agathos has vowed to continue his fight for the important award.
Following a solid recent run of form in the series, the FullGas Racing Subaru has enjoyed a climb up the standings that saw him replace the Salteri/Yucel Volkswagen Golf after round two in Phillip Island.
“I think the MRF Tyre Team Award is a great incentive and a testament to all the hard work the organisers and committee of APC have put in to secure such a great opportunity,” Agathos said.
“For all the teams competing in the MRF Tyres Australian Production Car series, the prize that is on offer would greatly benefit each competitor so it adds extra pressure to be consistent at every round.
“Winning the MRF Tyres Team Award would be tremendous and a testament to all the hard work the team has put in over the past three years. It is appropriate that the award is called the TEAM Award as it takes a lot of people making sacrifices to successfully race all over the country.
“Having said that it also takes financial support so it would be remiss of me not to thank Nova Employment who have been a major sponsor from the beginning – without Nova there is no doubt we would not be here.”
Currently sitting third in the outright standings and first in the B1 class with three rounds remaining, Agathos remains grounded and is keeping a tight lid on any title aspirations.
“At the moment there is still a long way to go in the series so we haven’t really thought too far ahead, but hopefully we continue to be consistent over the remaining rounds and with good results we should be right at the pointy end,” Agathos explained.
"The first two rounds have been great for us. We have found a great setup window with the new MRF tyres and the Subaru has responded well to the change in tyres.
“We knew that the first two rounds would suit us well with Sydney Motorsport Park being our home track and the unpredictable weather of Phillip Island playing well to our All-Wheel-Drive advantage.
“Overall we have been strong and consistent all year long and that is also testament to my co driver Matthew Boylan who has joined the team this year – despite learning on the run with a new car and new tracks, Matty has been quick and consistent from the beginning.”
The MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars Series will have its annual Fight in the Night race on Saturday night, before holding its second 300km race for the weekend on Sunday.
