The 2019 Island Magic is back after a huge 2018 and more than 100 cars have entered this year’s annual event at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
With a host of staple circuit categories returning to the fold, the action is expected to provide spectators with non-stop entertainment all weekend.
Headlining the six categories are the Ramada Resort 50K Plate Sports Sedans Sports Sedan races with the 2019 Victorian Sports Sedan Series’ final round also on the line.
The 25-field category will include some of the best sports Sedans drivers in the country competing on the picturesque circuit with Steven Lacey, Alex Williams, Steve Tamasi and Dean Camm all bringing their pride and joys to the event.
The largest field of the day comes in the form of the Porsche 944s with 33 cars expected to line up in the one-make series and 2019 Porsche 944 Challenge winner Cameron Beller will look to continue his stellar season and end on a high.
There will be plenty of sports cars on display throughout the weekend with around 30 cars entered in the CUE Victorian Tourist Trophy – a category returning to the Island Magic for the 15th consecutive year.
The grid will feature a number of exotic sports cars with four Audis, 16 Porsches and a couple of Super Trofeo Lamborghini Huracans part of the impressive field. However the main attraction in the category is sure to be the Richard Bendell driven 7 Litre SIN R1 550.
The trophy will also feature a different format to previous years with two one-hour endurance races to replace the two sprint and one enduro format.
The Trophy isn’t the only category to boast a mouthwatering array of cars with the Victorian Historic Touring Trophy to feature 26 cars ranging from 1950s to the 1970s.
GT Falcons, Camaros, Mustangs, Toranas, Cortinas, Capris along with a 1950s Citroen are all part of the category that will gain the attention of even the most nostalgic of fans.
Another category with 30 cars to do battle on the Victorian track is the Improved Production Cars with Torana SS hatchback Paul Rule to lead the field. Andrew Butcher in the BMW M3, Kevin Stoopman in the Mitsubishi EVO and PIARC competitor of the Year 2018 Gary McKay in the LJ Torana will all be challenging Rule for top spot.
Rounding out the categories are the Formula Vees and it will be a battle of the manufacturers as eight Duratec Cars take on the standard Kent 1600s in what is certainly solid preparation for a big 2020 Formula Vee season.
As one of the biggest events wrapping up the year, racing fans can attend for a $35.00 weekend pass with children under 16 able to enter free of charge.
