Campbell climbing the Porsche pyramid

Matt Campbell (back row, sixth from left) has been elevated to Porsche's full works driver status.
Matt Campbell has taken a huge step in his sports car racing career, with the Queenslander being elevated to full works driver status for Porsche.

The 24-year-old has been within the Porsche youth development program since 2017 after winning the prestigious Porsche shootout at the end of 2016.

Under Porsche’s development program, Campbell received extensive training as a Porsche Junior before taking the step up to be a ‘Young Professional’ and race in Porsche one-make cups and international GT racing.

Over the past two years, Campbell has held his own on the big stage, claiming a number of big results, including the 24 Heures Du Mans and the 24h Barcelona in 2018.

His first year as a Young Professional also saw him claim three wins during a solid FIA World Endurance Championship season.

His first place in the 2019 Liqui-moly Bathurst 12 Hour Race was the major highlight for this year – the win coming alongside Norwegian Dennis Olsen and German Dirk Werner in the Earl Bamber Motorsport prepared Porsche 911 GT3 R.

The 2016 Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup winner’s next phase in his career was announced during the manufacturer’s Night of Champions motor sport gala in Stuttgart, Germany, which reflected on its 2019 season.

With the past season one of the most successful in Porsche’s long and illustrious history, Campbell’s Bathurst win added to the Porsche titles in three of the world’s most important GT racing series.

Campbell will contest the 2020 season with fellow Porsche Young Professional graduate Mathieu Jaminet from France.
