The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship has postponed the next three events of its 2020 season.

 

The Tyrepower Tasmania Super400, ITM Auckland Super400 and Perth SuperNight have all been rescheduled to a later date with the Championship now aiming to start with the Truck Assist Winton Super400 in June.

 

The postponing of the event comes in light of the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation, which has seen a number of sporting events around the country postponed or cancelled.

 

While understandably disappointed, Supercars CEO Sean Seamer remained positive the Championship would still run its 14-round season in some capacity.

 

“We have been working diligently to assess all available options to ensure continuity of the Series,” Seamer said in a statement.

 

“Our sport is a visceral experience and rather than run without crowds, we have decided, along with our key broadcast and government partners, to delay any further racing until June. Tasmania, Auckland and Perth events will all be postponed until later in the year, not cancelled.

 

“Supercars’ priority is to deliver the 14 round 2020 championship for our fans and partners, irrespective of the dates. We anticipate that we will be able to formalise and communicate this plan within the next few weeks.”

 

In the meantime, Supercars will look to host an Eseries involving all the stars of the Championship where fans can stay tuned via through Twitch, Fox Sports and Kayo.

 

The Championship will also release a new eight-part docuseries, The Inside Line - A Season with Erebus Motorsport, which will enable fans to go behind-the-scenes of the Victorian team, giving them lots of content over these challenging times.
