It’s been another dramatic night in the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries with no round winner yet due to a series of ongoing post-race investigations.
There was plenty of entertainment on the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium as Shane van Gisbergen and Anton De Pasquale once again had an epic battle all night.
In the first and third races, both drivers were neck-and-neck throughout the whole race and in both races, the duo had contact in the dying stages at the same part of the track.
Unfortunately for De Pasquale, he ended up worse off on both occasions as van Gisbergen managed to recover and crossed the line in first place.
In the round’s opening race, Scott McLaughlin, Cameron Waters and Formula 1 star Lando Norris almost benefited from the two front runner’s collision, only for McLaughlin to have contact on the final turn – causing another dramatic finish to the race.
McLaughlin was part of the drama again in the night’s final race as he and Chaz Mostert were in an intense long-term battle for third place before the duo had contact at the same time as De Pasquale and van Gisbergen. This time, McLaughlin was better off and comfortably secured the podium’s final spot ahead of Waters and Mostert.
In-between the two chaotic races, teenager Broc Feeney became the first wildcard entry to claim a victory in the virtual series, taking out top spot in the reverse-grid race over Will Davison and Garry Jacobson, while van Gisbergen and De Pasquale finished fifth and sixth respectively.
Feeney started on the front row alongside another wildcard entry, James Courtney, but it wasn't long before the 2019 Kumho Tyre V8 Touring Car Series winner passed him in the race’s opening stages.
From there, Feeney held off challenges from Mark Winterbottom and Davison, who enjoyed some time of the lead himself.
After some initial scares, Feeney eventually crossed the line ahead of Davison, while Jacobson saw off challenges from Mostert to get his first podium in the series.
For Feeney, it was a fantastic feeling to take out a win against some of Australia’s most talented drivers.
“It was great fun this event,” Feeney said post-race.
“The first race didn’t go to plan because my game crashed but in the second race I got to start up the front.
“It's not exactly the race you want to win but you definitely take the opportunity when you get it. It was also great to race with Will. It was really exciting.”
Joining Feeney as one of the better performing wildcard entries was Norris, with the McLaren star finishing the final race in the top 10.
It was a tough night out for the other wildcards, as Courtney was unable to recover from his disappointing start to the third race, while FIA Formula 3 Championship rookie Jack Doohan and 2019 Kumho Tyre V8 Touring Car Series runner-up Jayden Ojeda finished further down the order.
With an official winner of the round to be released shortly, the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries will look to the Circuit of the Americas and Sebring in the United States on 13 May.
