The Porsche Motorsport pathway is one many young drivers aspire to follow, and Harri Jones is no different.

 

Within Australia, drivers begin their climb of the Porsche pyramid in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia, before stepping up to the well established Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia, racing at some of the country’s biggest events.

 

If all goes to plan and success comes their way, drivers can then look to progress in Europe, something Matt Campbell, Jaxon Evans and more recently, Jordan Love have all achieved.

 

For Jones, the climb is already well and truly under way.

 

Jones is currently in his first season of the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup after winning the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia last year.

 

In a stellar six round season, Jones placed in the top five at every race and finished on the podium 15 consecutive times, which included three race wins.

 

His performance in the one-make category’s second tier saw him recognised at the Motorsport Australia Queensland State Awards, presented by Burson Auto Parts, with the prestigious Will Power Trophy.

 

During a one-on-one Motorsport Australia interview with Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships host Greg Rust, Jones explained how much the award meant to him.

 

“It meant a lot to win the Will Power Award,” Jones said.

 

“He is a very accomplished racing driver from Australia and has done incredible things in motorsport, not only here but overseas too.

 

“To have his recognition in my ability is very special and something I will treasure for a long time.”

 

Another major highlight to come out of Jones’ well deserved series title victory was the opportunity to attend Porsche’s Night of Champions in Stuttgart late last year.

 

With Jones hoping to continue his rise up the ranks and follow in the footsteps of Campbell and Evans, the 20-year-old also revealed to Rust how much of an honour it was to spend time with the Australian duo doing their country proud in Europe.

 

“It was awesome to be there and see how Porsche works on a global scale,” Jones added.

 

“There were so many awesome people there too. It was also great to catch up with Matty and Jaxon and see how far they have come, as well as their lifestyle. It gave me more motivation to try and get there myself.

 

“They had some input during my season last year and now I am up against the big boys in the Carrera Cup so there is going to be no holding back.”
