Wood back in the W Series through online league

Friday 15 May, 2020
Cailtin Wood will race in the W Series' 10-round virtual series.

Australian Cailtin Wood has been announced as the newest entrant for the W Series Esports League, as she joins 19 other females from around the world in the virtual series.

With motorsport currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the female-only series has joined many international competitions in launching a virtual edition for its competitors.

Partnered up with Logitech G, Beyond Entertainment and iRacing, the series will hold 10 rounds at some of the most iconic tracks in the world, including Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Mount Panorama and the Nürburgring in Germany.

Despite not being selected in the original field of 18 entrants, which was made up of the real-life 2020 season drivers, Wood was one of two drivers to be recently invited to compete in the series alongside Poland’s Gosia Rdest.

Part of the inaugural W Series in 2019, the 23-year-old finished 13th after six rounds, with her best result being a top five finish at the penultimate round at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands.

Now back in the series through an online capacity, Wood was thrilled to be given another opportunity at proving herself on the world stage.

"The growth of esports this year has been phenomenal and I’m extremely excited to be part of the W Series Esports League,” Wood said.

“A lot of hard work has been put in by W Series, Logitech G, Beyond Entertainment and iRacing to make it happen. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be back on the grid, even if it is virtual for now.

“The circuits that have been chosen for the W Series Esports League are really impressive and I especially can’t wait to get back to my roots for the Mount Panorama Bathurst round. I’ll definitely be clocking up lots of hours on the sim in preparation."

The full schedule for the W Series Esports League will be revealed in the coming weeks.
