The South Eastern Automobile Club (SEAC) has held the first motorsport event in South Australia since COVID-19 restrictions were eased in the state, with the club running a practice test and tune day at SEAC Park.
A dozen members took part in the club’s Queen’s Birthday event, with a number of the attendees either rookies or first-time drivers.
Keeping in line with the Motorsport Australia Return to Race guidelines, the event worked on a rotation strategy of three two-hour sessions, as four cars took part in each session, before a change over period allowed the next lot of cars to do their two hour session.
Despite a smaller participation rate than originally expected, event organiser Curtis Boyd was still happy with how the event panned out as it gave them a blueprint on how to run future events in the current environment.
“We only ended up with a dozen people but it was still our first day back since COVID-19, and it was a long weekend so people used it as a chance to get away,” Boyd said.
“With that said - it was a great practice day and we got to welcome some newer people into the SEAC family. It was an opportunity to train and coach them out with racing lines and tyre pressures so it was all pretty good.
“We also used the practice day to see how the club can run events under the restrictions. Everything seemed to have worked well, especially the rotation policy and everyone was happy to abide by the social distancing rules too.
“I think we are lucky because we have our own premises, so we have more control. Our rotation policy worked really well.
“Now that the state has eased restrictions, we can look at using this concept for a bigger event because it worked well.”
The club will hold a motorkhana this weekend before holding a khanacross at the end of the month.
