COVID-19 update – 7 July

Tuesday 07 July, 2020
The Victorian government has announced a return to ‘Stage 3’ restrictions from 8 July, for a further period of six weeks.

This is understandably disappointing news for many Victorians and will also have an impact on motorsport events held in the state.

As such, Motorsport Australia advises that competitors based in metropolitan Melbourne (see the 31 local government areas listed by the Victorian government here) and those in the Mitchell Shire will be unable to compete in events as leaving their house to compete would breach the stay at home orders issued. Events based in metropolitan Melbourne and those in the Mitchell Shire will also not be permitted to proceed.

Those competing in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will be able to compete, given their respective relocations to New South Wales in recent days.

Events may still be permitted in regional Victoria, but event organisers must ensure those from the above areas do not attend.

Despite this news, other states around the country are continuing to enjoy the easing of restrictions and Motorsport Australia staff stand ready to assist our affiliated clubs and event organisers preparing to host events in the coming weeks. The dedicated Return To Race resource centre is available at www.motorsport.org.au/covid19.

Understandably, the Motorsport Australia head office in Melbourne remains closed to the public, as well as the state offices for the time being, with staff working remotely and contactable via email or the Membership Hotline – 1300 883 959.

We are currently experiencing an increase in demand on the hotline, so please appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this unique time.
