Virtual pies could offer some relief for clubs
Thursday 30 July, 2020
Australian online sales enterprise Click Frenzy has announced a special initiative to support local sporting clubs during its annual Click Frenzy Sports weekend sale next month.
The fundraising initiative, Virtual Canteen, will allow people to purchase typical virtual food and drink items often found at a local sporting club’s canteen with the money to be donated to the club after.
The initiative comes off the back of many Australian local clubs and leagues within community sport having been severely affected by the postponement and/or cancellation of their seasons as a result of COVID-19, ultimately causing financial strain on the industry.
Clubs simply need to register by filling out an application form with their details and more information will be sent to them regarding how to take part.
From virtual pies and sausages to chocolates and soft drinks, people can donate money on a small scale through “purchasing” these items, with the funds to be directly injected back into the registered club.
With a number of Motorsport Australia affiliated car clubs and locations also affected by the lack of events this year, Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca encouraged them to get involved with this unique opportunity.
“This year has been difficult on everyone involved in the motorsport community and small opportunities like this can always make a big difference in staying afloat,” Arocca said.
“It’s a fantastic initiative as people are more likely to donate money in a smaller capacity, so it’s a great way to get some money back that may have been lost during the past few months where there has been no competition or attending crowds.
“We often hear companies comparing products to the price of a cup of coffee, but how often can you purchase a virtual pie or sausage in bread? It’s definitely something I would encourage our clubs to get involved with.”
The Click Frenzy Sports weekend sale and Virtual Canteen take place from Thursday 6 August at 7pm and close on Sunday 9 August at 11.59pm AEST.
