The 2020 Motorsport Australia Till Hino Victorian Rally Championship (VRC) has unfortunately been cancelled, with the Victorian Rally Panel making the tough decision during its most recent meeting.
The announcement comes off the back of the ongoing issues surrounding COVID-19 in Victoria, with the state currently in Stage 4 restrictions.
Despite the championship no longer going ahead in 2020, the remaining two rounds scheduled to take place later this year will continue go ahead, albeit as 'stand-alone' events.
Victorian Rally Chair Tom Ruessman admitted it was a difficult decision to make, but it was decided it was the right one.
"At the August 2020 Victorian Rally Panel meeting, the panel unanimously agreed to recommend cancelling the 2020 Motorsport Australia Till Hino Victorian Rally Championship,” Ruessman said.
“This decision was reached after consultation with competitors and event organisers and was presented to the Victorian State Council Executive who on 12 August have accepted the Panel’s recommendation.
“The uncertainties around Victorian Government restrictions for the remainder of 2020 means that we cannot provide competitors with the structure and predictability that the State Championship should offer.
“This change will also provide the remaining calendared events with increased flexibility in regard to their event formats.
“Applications for 2021 events have been received and a draft calendar is being prepared which will be announced in due course."
The next scheduled VRC rally is the Valley Stages on 25 October, while the Maryville Stages is currently locked in to take place on 28 November.
