Caitlin Wood has finished the W Series Esports League in sixth place.
Australian Caitlin Wood has ended the W Series Esports League on a high after finishing runner-up in the series’ final feature race at Silverstone.
It had been a tough few rounds for Wood in the lead up to the season finale at the British Grand Prix circuit and as a result, she dropped out of the top five where she had been all season.
The 23-year-old started the round strong with a solid qualifying round, which saw her start race one on the front row alongside Spaniard Marta Garcia.
Wood almost secured the lead early on, but Garcia held firm and defended her position well before making to the finish line unchallenged for the rest of the race, while Wood finished the race sixth.
In the reverse grid race, Wood managed to make up one position from her starting place of ninth as her closest rivals in Nerea Marti and Tasman Pepper finished ahead.
Needing a big result to stay in the hunt for a top five finish, Wood produced one of her cleanest performances of the season and wrestled her way past Pepper into second place within the opening stint.
From there she fended off any challenges before getting eight seconds clear of the South African and enjoying a trouble free run to the finish line where she crossed the line behind race winner Garcia.
With Pepper beating Naomi Schiff by two tenths of a second to claim third, it was enough to finish the season ahead in fifth place ahead of Wood.
Despite not being in attendance at the last event, Dutch driver Beitske Visser won the series ahead of Garcia, while Russian teenager Irina Sidorkova rounded out the podium ahead of Nerea Mari.
