New strategy key in Robinson’s off road charge

Beau Robinson is the latest guest on Motorsport Australia's Zoom Chats with Greg Rust.

BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship star Beau Robinson believes a new found sense of strategy could be the final piece of the puzzle in finally achieving a long time goal.

Often regarded as one of the fastest in the sport, Robinson’s pure pace and race ability alone puts him in elite company, as well as the fact he has regularly been at top of the field for more than a decade now.

Robinson has been close to securing a maiden title on a number of occasions but has often been the victim of mechanical issues, which has plagued his career and prevented him from not only winning the outright championship but the prestigious Tatts Finke Desert Race.

However with COVID-19 putting a pause on the championship in 2020, it has given Robinson and his team a chance to rethink their approach to every race.

Speaking with Greg Rust, Robinson touched on a range of topics in the Motorsport Australia produced chat, including his determination to focus on the whole season and not just crossing the finishing line first.

“The team had a really good long talk about what it’s going to take to actually finish races because of some of the heartbreak in recent years,” Robinson said.

“One example is from a recent St George event, where we had motor issues but didn’t fix them because I couldn’t be bothered but in hindsight we definitely should have.

“This is our big focus now. We want to make sure that every day matters and every point matters because who knows what will happen at the end of the year.

“We have lacked in this area in the past of just trying to finish. We need to focus a little bit more time on just getting every point that matters. A little bit more of the data side of needs a bit more love.”

While there has not been any racing as in 2020, Robinson is likely to get at least one race under his belt this year with the  Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race to form part of the Motorsport Australia West Australian Off Road Cup on 23-25 October.
