Motorsport events to resume across Victoria

Tuesday 27 October, 2020
Motorsport Australia will be permitting events throughout Victoria from 8 November.
Motorsport Australia can today confirm it will begin permitting events throughout Victoria from 8 November.

Smaller regional events were already being permitted and will continue taking place for regional Victorians, in line with Motorsport Australia’s government endorsed Return To Race strategy.

With the 25km limit still in place for metropolitan Melbourne, a number of events will not be feasible for Melburnians to attend until this restriction on travel is lifted, which currently is planned for 8 November. However, small grassroots events, such as motorkhanas or track days within venues in metropolitan Melbourne, can proceed under current restrictions from Wednesday, 28 October, assuming participants do not exceed their 25km travel limit.

Assuming the 8 November milestone remains in place, Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca said events could then welcome Victorians from all postcodes, allowing for an exciting finish to the year for Victorians eager to get their motorsport fix.

“It’s been a really tough year for everyone in Australia, but Victorians have obviously been impacted by the longest lockdowns of all states, so the easing of restrictions is a great relief for many,” Arocca said.

“Motorsport events will soon be allowed to take place across Victoria, with travel between regions – which is a big part of what motorsport entails – to be allowed in early November which will give the sport a much needed boost to finish off the year.

“As such, our permits team and membership service officers are ready to take any queries from Victorians as they plan their Return To Race.

“On behalf of everyone at Motorsport Australia, we say a big thank you to all our members in Victoria and across the country for their ongoing support – and also congratulate those who have hosted many successful events in 2020 following their local restrictions and requirements.”

Motorsport Australia’s head office will remain closed to the public, however staff remain contactable via email and phone.

Licence holders can also check their current licence expiry through the new Motorsport Australia app, and renew via the online member portal or through our membership hotline: 1300 883 959.
