Next year will prove a busy year for tarmac rallying in Western Australia with Targa West releasing the schedule for all of next year’s events.

Like many Australian series and championships this year, COVID-19 restrictions caused the delay or cancellation of a variety of events and the West Australian tarmac rallying community were impacted just as much as anyone else.

While some events were able to go ahead, it was either with a reduced number of competitors or shortened courses to keep in line with the government regulations.

Ahead of its final event of the year in the GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint in Bunbury in December, Targa West has given its large following something to look forward to with 2021 just six weeks away.

The season will begin at the end of February with the City of Albany’s Targa Albany Sprints, where entered crews will spend the long weekend either sprinting up the picturesque Mt Adelaide or in the event’s new rallysprint.

Just three weeks later is the Make Smoking History Targa South West, an event that did manage to get up in 2020, albeit in a reduced capacity.

As a result of how successful its shorter format was, event organisers have opted to continue with the one day rally on Saturday 20 March, which follows a Shannons Show N' Shine on the Friday night.

Crews will then have to wait half a year before they get to compete in one of the biggest events in the state, the Make Smoking History Targa West, before the WA tarmac rally season wraps up with the GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint towards the end of the year.

The 2020/2021 Shannons Targa Rallysprint Series season is also well underway after the first round took place earlier this month, with next month’s second round to be followed up by another four rounds in 2021.

This year’s GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint will take place in Bunbury on 4-5 December.
