The Shannons Motorsport Australia Festival schedule has been revealed with a huge two days of motorsport to take place at Sandown International Raceway on 12-13 December.
In a joint venture between the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships and the MG Car Club of Victoria, the busy schedule will see a combination of grassroots, state and national categories run on the iconic circuit.
Unfortunately, due to ongoing COVID restrictions, the large number of competitors and the venue set up, spectators will not be able to attend this event, however there will be coverage across the weekend, with content from on track and in the paddock available on the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships website and social media channels.
Headlining the list of categories will be the joint Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge class which will see competitors battle it out over three races – two of which will be on Saturday.
It won’t be the only time the Porsches will be in the spotlight, with the category getting four 12-minute track sessions each day, while there will also be a special six minute Porsche Speed Comparison on both days.
There will be plenty of classic cars taking centre stage throughout the weekend too with the Group 1 and 2 Historic Cars getting four sprint sessions on Saturday and Group 3 running four on Sunday alongside the Historic Regularity competitors on Sunday.
Outside of the regularities, there will be no shortage of racing either with the event’s support categories all getting three races apiece with qualifying and race one to run on Saturday and each to have two races on Sunday.
Of the support categories, the Hyundai Excels and Formula Free will enjoy the grids of their own, while the MG and Invited British Sports Cars will share the track with each other, as will the Saloon Cars and BMW E30s.
The Group 1 Sprints category is the first cab of the rank on Saturday morning with their first session to run at 9:10am AEDT before the Saloon Cars and BMW E30s wrap up the day at 4:53pm.
On Sunday, it’s the Group 3 Sprints who get things underway at 9:10am before the Saloon Cars and BMW E30s are once again the last category on track for the event.
