The Motorsport Australia Victorian Motorkhana Championship (VMC) will commence this weekend with the first round to take place at the METEC Driver Training facility in Bayswater North.
Hosted by the Fiat Car Club of Victoria, a full field of 50 competitors are expected to turn up to the event, which provides encouraging signs for organisers as they look to complete a full championship in 2021.
Some of the confirmed entries include six competitors in the junior category, eight women and four in the masters’ class, while five custom built specials will be going for outright honours.
Headlining the jam packed entry list will be Michael Excell, with the 2019 champion leading the way in the special class alongside other notable competitors Matthew Webb and Erin Freame.
The format will see the full field enjoy 12 tests throughout the day, with six different layouts to be run in both directions.
The majority of drivers won’t be rusty for the state level event either, with many of the competitors having attended a practice day in Werribee recently, which also acted as a ‘Come and Try’ day for interested participants.
With three prominent Victorian based clubs in Huntingdale Auto Club, the Toyota Car Club and the Victorian Mini Club providing a large percentage of the entry list, event secretary Paul Freame believed there was lots to play for, even if it was just for fun.
“A lot of competitors are keen to do something again because it has been 12 months since they have done something,” Freame said.
“The February/March period was the last time we were able to run an event, so we will try and be gentle with our competitors in the context of forward driving for this event, but no reversing.
“We’re a small community who enjoy motorkhana competition, but as we get back into motorsport activities again, we are aiming to have a safe, but fun event for all competitors and officials.”
The first round of the Victorian Motorkhana Championship will take place at the METEC Driver Training Centre on Sunday 31 January.
