The Radical Australia Cup has finalised its full 2021 calendar with Sydney Motorsport Park and Sandown to round out the season. 

Having already confirmed its opening two rounds and season finale last year, the category’s organisers have been hard at work in securing the remaining two rounds.

Starting with its traditional opening round location of Mount Panorama, the RA Cup will begin the 2021 season as a support category during the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour in April, which doubles as a round of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.

Following on from the category’s opener at the famous destination, it will return to its home circuit at Sydney Motorsport Park in May for another round with the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships. 

After a lengthy break between the second and third round, the category will then host three rounds within a month of a half period.

The series’ third round will take place at the start of September at Sydney Motorsport Park before venturing down south to the iconic Sandown International Raceway just two weeks later for the penultimate round.

The series will then wrap up the 2021 season during the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ final meeting for the year at The Bend Motorsport Park in the middle of October.

With the reshuffling of other national categories causing a ripple effect for the Radical Australia Cup, category manager Karl Reindler was just happy to get the season locked in.

“There have been a number of variations proposed over the last six months, but with changes to the Supercars calendar - which had a flow-on effect - and ongoing border challenges, we’ve had to be patient as Motorsport Australia helped us to lock down our final dates,” Reindler said.

“With our regulations stipulating that we need to compete in three different states in Australia each season, we needed to lock away a Victorian round to complete the trifecta, and we’d worked very hard to establish that round at Phillip Island on a date that wasn’t quite so close to our other confirmed events, but it just wasn’t to be.

“Regardless, off the back of a very challenging year last year, and with the shadow of the pandemic continuing to hang over us, we think it’s a pretty good compromise and will provide for some great racing on some pretty popular circuits.”

Despite the final regulations yet to be released, it is likely they will be adapted to accommodate for both SR8 and ‘modified’ SR3 entries. 

The Radical Australia Cup begins its 2021 season at the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour at Mount Panorama on 2-4 April.
