Motorsport Australia yesterday convened its first formal meeting of a Formula Ford Working Group.
Consisting of Motorsport Australia staff, Australian Motor Racing Commission members, and Formula Ford stakeholders, the group has been formed to discuss Formula Ford’s role as a viable junior pathway for circuit racing drivers.
The meeting covered the general objectives and philosophy of how Formula Ford, or a newly labelled formula, could be reinstated as a National Championship. Topics such as cost, safety, sporting, and technical matters were discussed.
The group also heard submissions from interested parties looking to engage with the category in its future guise.
The Formula Ford Association (FFA) will remain in close dialogue with Motorsport Australia’s working group to ensure certainty amongst its stakeholders, with Committee Member Phil Marrinon part of the Motorsport Australia Working Group.
“We have been pleased with the level of dialogue from Motorsport Australia and the calibre of people involved who are looking to reset Formula Ford in Australia,” Marrinon said.
“As a group, we’ve already made great progress in these early stages and we are open to all possibilities that will come about from these discussions. The ultimate aim is to ensure a good result for Formula Ford.”
A further meeting will be convened next week to cover further topics based on the group’s initial discussions.
