The Motorsport Australia Victorian Circuit Racing Championships continue to shine this year as another record entry list makes up the third round of the 2021 season in Phillip Island.
In the two previous rounds to have run already this year, both race meetings welcomed more than 200 competitors and again the number of participation has been strong with 263 entries confirmed for this weekend’s round.
Representative of the Championships’ rise in popularity this year is the continual growth of the Improved Production Cars, which for the second time this year, boasts the largest field out of the 14 categories.
Although the Improved Production Cars were originally pencilled in to share the grid with the BMW E30s, the 42 entered competitors means it will enjoy the circuit all to themselves, the one-make BMW series also drawing a decent field of 15 competitors.
The second largest battle of the weekend lies in the Circuit Excel Series with 27 cars locked in, while the MG and British Sports Cars, Formula Vees, Holden HQs, Porsche 944s and Saloon Cars have all confirmed fields of 20 and above
Rounding out the list of categories to be competing on the weekend are the Sports Sedans, Sports Cars, Historic Touring Cars, Formula Ford and Formula Ford 1600s – the latter two of which will run a combined grid.
With a huge field to run this weekend, spokesperson for the event organisers Phillip Island Auto Racing Club, Geoff Bull was thrilled with the amount of entries.
“This record 263 car entry for a state championship round at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is a massive response from the competitors,” Bull said.
“It’s an outstanding achievement after 2020's suspension of the series due to COVID-19 and it exceeds 2019’s record of 261 cars which was an achievement in itself.
“Formula Ford and Formula Ford 1600 have made a massive comeback this year, whilst Circuit Excels list of 27 underscores its popularity. Sports Cars will bring the glamour entries and a 40 minute race with cars like Sins, McLarens, Lamborghinis, Porsches and more.”
On top of all competitors and officials to be in attendance, fans will also be able to go to the famous circuit on both days and watch all the action unfold.
The race meetings gets underway from 9am AEST each day with 32 races to run across the weekend.
The Motorsport Australia Victorian Circuit Racing Championships' third round of the year takes place at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 15-16 May.
