Double weekend no problem for CNCSCC

Friday 14 May, 2021
The Central North Coast Sporting Car Club will be running two events this weekend.
Running multiple events over one weekend can often be considered a challenging task, but for the Central North Coast Sporting Car Club (CNCSCC), it’s something it has grown accustomed to.

This weekend, the New South Wales based club will run two events for the second time this year, with the Let’s Do It Motorkhana to take place on Saturday and the Let’s Do It Autocross to place on Sunday.

Around 13 competitors will take part in Saturday’s competition, completing between five and six tests, while Sunday is the club’s main event with 30 competitors signed up to take on six tests.

While the motorkhana is the smaller event of the two, the significance of it cannot be denied as it continues the development of many young junior drivers looking to gain valuable experience behind the wheel.

Both events can also be considered just as important as each other from a competition point of view with results from each event contributing to the overarching 2021 club series points score, where plaques are awarded to the winners of both disciplines at the end of the year.

For club President Michael Latimore, the success of these particular events are essential for not just the club, but for the members who enjoy getting a chance to compete.

“It’s great to be back at it for another weekend of competition. We try and do something every month and like to mix it up,” Latimore said.

“The motorkhana for us is an opportunity to give the oldies some time behind the wheel and to introduce interested young people to motorsport. This weekend we have two new debutants which is exciting.

“We also have five or six juniors running this weekend in the motorkhana and it makes us really proud to see these kids coming through and learning the fundamentals of not just motorsport, but driving in general.

“We also find that running these sorts of events keep a good morale in the club. They are pretty simple to run and there is not much setup for track layouts, which is why it’s pretty easy to do a couple in one weekend – it obviously keeps members happy too.

“We find people enjoy these cheaper forms of motorsport where it’s not so full on and it’s more a social catchup. The club also has really good facilities where people can camp, shower and eat, so that helps too with people enjoying themselves.”

The motorkhana begins from 12pm on Saturday and the autocross from 9:30am. Admission is free for fans with the whole autocross track visible from the spectator point, while the club’s canteen is open all weekend.

The Central North Coast Sporting Car Club’s Let’s Do It Motorkhana and Autocross takes place at the Nabiac Motorsport Complex on 15-16 May.
