Motorsport Australia is saddened to hear of the passing of Queensland official Kevin Lawrence following a recent battle with lung disease.

Having started life in motorsport as a speedway competitor, Kevin’s biggest contribution to the sport was as a well-respected Motorsport Australia official.

For more than 30 years, Kevin volunteered at many events, ranging from club level to national championships and working across all disciplines throughout Queensland – his biggest passion being off road.

Earning himself Gold Scrutineer and Silver Steward status, Kevin would often venture back to his roots and hold valued positions were required at grassroots events, which would often end up being Clerk of Course due to his highly touted experience.

Outside of volunteering at events, Kevin was also a founding member of the Queensland Scrutineering Association in 1993 and eventually became the association’s President after many years of being a committee member.

Motorsport Australia Queensland State Council Chair Bradley Tubb paid tribute to Kevin and his passion for the sport.

“Kevin was always ready to help people who were getting started in motorsport,” Tubb said.

“He was especially willing to help an underdog.  He was also responsible for assisting many local motorsport clubs to get established in southern and central Queensland.

“Kevin will be remembered by all who knew him as someone always ready with a witty comment (usually irreverent) and a cheeky grin.

“For Kevin, life was meant to be fun.”

Motorsport Australia would like to extend its condolences to Kevin’s family, friends and colleagues.
