Hosted by the Australian Sports Sedan Association, the event will no longer take place this month due to the latest COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria. 

  

It’s been a highly successful year for the Championships with record numbers occurring at all three previous rounds, however with state-wide restrictions currently in place in Victoria unlikely to ease until later this month, event organisers made the early call to call off the event.    

 

With a replacement date yet to be set, all competitors will have their entry fees refunded over the next few weeks. 

  

President of the Australian Sports Sedan Association, Stephen Craig, revealed the reasons behind the event’s postponement in a statement to all stakeholders. 

  

“This decision has not been taken lightly; however, we are taking this announcement now to give everybody as much notice as possible,” Craig wrote. 

  

“We could wait longer, however in all likelihood even with a cessation of the current Melbourne lockdown on Tuesday, although that is looking tenuous. 

  

“Vic Health activity rules may stop the meeting, or at least make it unviable. 

  

“We have received tremendous support from the racing community, who clearly want to get back to racing. 

  

“To all our partners, the owners of the venue, Brendan and staff from the Melbourne Racing Club, competitors, medical teams, the Victorian Flag Marshalling Team, the Victorian Fire and Rescue Squad, the Victorian Scrutineering Panel, the PIARC Recovery Team and all the volunteers that we ‘borrow’ from all areas of motorsport; thank you.” 

  

The next scheduled round of the Motorsport Australia Victorian State Racing Championships takes place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 25 September.
