The Phillip Racing Auto Racing Club (PIARC) returns to action this weekend with the Victorian club to host a modified version of its August Access.
As a result of the state’s recent restrictions, the club has had to put a hold on many of its other grassroots events, however this weekend, it will finally get the chance to run an event.
And like its long-awaited return to racing in November last year, the club chose to reduce the event from two days to one jam packed day in order to stay in line with the State Government’s restrictions on events and accommodation around the area.
Around 90 competitors across three major categories are locked in for the popular race meeting, which is focused at giving local groups a place to race and a training avenue for new officials.
Headlining the categories is the newly formed Scarcella Designz PIARC Combined Sedans with 55 cars part of the two-grid entry list. The category will welcome a host of difference models and makes - anywhere from Hyundai Excels to Lamborghinis.
A number of high-profile drivers are entered in the category with Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series rookie Luke King and 2020 Motorsport Australia GT Trophy Series winner Matthew Stoupas amongst the solid entry list.
The other categories to feature on the weekend include the 17-car field of BMW E30 Racing and the 2 Litre Sports Sedans, which welcomes 16 drivers to the fold.
Entries for the event are still being accepted with interested competitors able to enter via the Motorsport Australia event entry portal.
While spectators are unable to enter the event, Phillip Island Auto Racing Club Vice President was confident an entertaining display would still be put on for all entrants, nominated crew and registered officials.
“We’re really looking forward to this weekend and bringing motorsport both back to our community of members and the iconic circuit of Phillip Island,” Scarcella said.
“With a huge schedule locked in, I have no doubt that people will enjoy themselves – whether it’s from the action on the track or just being at a motorsport event again.
“We would like to thank all the officials, competitor groups, PIARC members, Phillip Island Operations and Motorsport Australia for their continued support over the lockdown and we are back again to provide our mantra of access to motorsport.”
The Phillip Racing Auto Racing Club’s August Access takes place at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 8 August.
