South Australian Garnet Patterson will race on the world-famous Le Mans circuit in France later this month after securing a place in the Michelin Le Mans Cup ‘Road to Le Mans’ event.
The category is the main support card to the iconic Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race, where Patterson will team up with Andres Latorre aboard a Revere Racing prepared Adess LMP3 car.
Going up against a talented field of LMP3 and GT3 machinery, the all-Aussie line-up will contest two 55-minutes races in the lead up to the iconic 24-hour endurance event.
With the team backed by Revere Coffee, Toorace, Simpson Race Products Australia, Kennol Performance Oil and Virtus Composites, Patterson was thrilled to be able to finally achieve a goal he has worked long and hard for.
“Before COVID, all of my recent racing career has been overseas, so the last year and a half has been challenging to navigate, so I can’t wait to get back overseas and compete again,” Patterson said.
“My goal has always been to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours, so to be able to say I’m going there this year to take the first step towards reaching that goal is surreal and exciting.
“It will mark the first time the Adess Evo LMP3 car will have raced at LeMans so we’re expecting a massive learning curve for the whole team, but it’s a great opportunity to show what the team, car and drivers can do and we’re going to grab it with both hands.”
While the 27-year-old's international sports car career was put on hold over the past 18 months, he and Latorre have still managed to compete in a number of Australian based series, as well as test days at The Bend Motorsport Park and other Australian circuits.
Latorre, who drove the Adess LMP3 during the Australian Prototype Series’ round at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this year, was also excited to compete on the world stage and complete a project he and Patterson had worked on for some time.
“It has been my dream to race at Le Mans since I was a child,” Latorre added.
“With Garnett, we started this project two years ago with the goal of racing at that incredible track and event, so to be entered in the Michelin Le Mans Cup this year is the next step in that journey.
“My mission is to be competitive in what is an extremely competitive field and show what our Aussie team can do.
“I’m really proud to have an all-Aussie line up this year.”
The duo will get into action on Wednesday 18 August with their first and only practice session before qualifying and the first race on Thursday 19 August.
They will then complete their final race on Saturday 21 August, just ahead of the 89th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
