The ever-popular Warwick 1000 continues to grow in 2021 with a huge turnout of entries expected to attend this weekend's annual Morgan Park based event.

While 2020 saw the race meeting as one of the first in Queensland to take place following nationwide lockdowns, this year will see the event return in full force.

Despite interstate competitors unable to attend the event due to border restrictions, more than 180 entries will still flock to Warwick to participate.

Many of the Motorsport Australia Queensland State Circuit Championship regular categories will be in attendance, including fan favourites Production Touring Cars, Excels and Production Sports Cars.

Each of the eight grids are expected to get 40-42 laps in total as the majority contest between three and four 10-lap races, taking the event’s total session numbers to 31 across the weekend.

The Excels and Production Sports categories will enjoy different formats to others with the former to see competitors battle it out for the Sword trophy across two 10-lap races and a 20-lap enduro, which wraps up the weekend.

Production Sports on the other hand has opted to run with two-20 lap enduros, giving competitors a different type of challenge and more time to get a result.

Other categories to feature include a combined grid of Saloons, HQ Holdens and Geminis, Improved Production, Sports Sedans and another combined grid of Formula 3, Radicals and Formula Fords.

Event organiser Chris Donnelly believes the event is in good shape and was looking forward to a fantastic weekend of motorsport.

“We’re quite lucky here in Queensland because we’re not under as the same strict restrictions as other parts of the country, so we’re on track for a fantastic day,” Donnelly said.

“There was a real focus on giving competitors as much track time as possible for this meeting and that’s why we combined a lot of them together. It just meant that in those combined fields, there would be more cars and more races – which we think is beneficial as it’s more value for money.

“We also wanted to reward some of the categories who have supported us well in previous years which is why the likes of the Hyundai Excels and Production Sports will be getting those enduro races.

“The longer races are certainly quite enjoyable for everyone too as it requires lots of strategy so we look forward to seeing how those events go.

“The competitors are very excited, we have a great group of volunteer officials, the weather is looking perfect – I think we are very lucky to be doing what we’re doing. We can’t wait.”

The 2021 Warwick 1000 takes place at Morgan Park on 28-29 August.
