Open opportunities for Mini big day

Wednesday 27 October, 2021
The Mini Car Club of Tasmania and MG Car Club of Tasmania are holding a joint supersprint this weekend.
The Mini Car Club of Tasmania will team up with the MG Car Club of Tasmania this weekend as the two clubs hold a special multi-club super sprint at Baskerville Raceway.

With the multi-club super sprint having grown substantially since it was first run more than two decades ago, event organisers have opened it up to Motorsport Australia members outside of the two clubs.

Any Tasmanian based competitors holding a Motorsport Australia Speed licence who wish to take part in a speed event before the end of the year can now enter via the Motorsport Australia Event Entry portal.

Across the day, competitors will not just have the track to themselves, they will be sharing it with nine other drivers at a time and all will be aiming to post the fastest lap of the day.

There will be plenty of opportunity for participants to get track time too with each session containing four flying laps of the two-kilometre circuit.

In order to encourage participation and the growth of the sport on the apple aisle, the club has a range of classes available to competitors with different skills.

Mini Car Club of Tasmania secretary Nicole Neri was looking forward to meeting new people at the popular event.

“This particular event has been a combined effort between both clubs for around 25 years and it’s been quite successful due to the good rapport between the two clubs,” Neri said.

“These events are usually well attended and we thought that due to the lack of events this year, it would be great to include as many drivers who have been starved of motorsport.

“There are always a good mix of cars, both classic and modern, and it’s a great little event because it’s good for both the competitive individual or a driver who just wants to test their car.

“We feel there are plenty of benefits for people taking part, but the obvious one would be that anyone who attends will have the chance to do what they love with like-minded people.

“It’s a really fun day out and we hope to see as many people as we can there.”

The joint MG and Mini Car Club of Tasmania super sprint takes place at Baskerville Raceway on Sunday, 31 October.
