The Repco Supercars Championship returns for the second consecutive round at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend with the ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight.
After a welcome return to racing following a 104-day break last weekend, the championship certainly delivered with plenty of drama and action across the three days.
Thankfully, Supercars fans don’t have to wait much longer for more action, with a busy weekend of racing once again locked in for the second of four consecutive rounds at Eastern Creek.
There will be plenty of things to keep an eye on this weekend and like the Bunnings Trade Sydney SuperNight, the format will see three races take place across the weekend, the only difference being a night race on each day.
The grid will look a bit more crowded than it did on the weekend with Kurt Kostecki and Thomas Randle both making their final wildcard appearances.
This round also marks the duo’s maiden appearance at Sydney Motorsport Park in a Supercar – giving them some extra vital preparation for their co-driver campaigns at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Another first this weekend will be the Championship’s first ever Sunday night race with Race 25 scheduled to take place under lights at 7:30pm to finish off the round.
The ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight will also see Red Bull Ampol Racing reach a major milestone, celebrating its 250th Supercars round appearance since debuting in 2003.
The team will have to use all its experience gained in those 18 years to find a way to close in on the raw pace of Dick Johnson Racing’s Anton De Pasquale who was a class above.
The former, who won two races over the weekend, set a new circuit record for the largest pole-winning margin ever at Sydney Motorsport Park after Race two qualifying lap time was 0.6565-seconds faster than the next best driver in Davison – eclipsing Mark Skaife’s 2002 record by just over one hundredth of a second.
