Carrera Cup shuffles remaining 2021 rounds

Friday 12 November, 2021
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Series will have two rounds at Bathurst.
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Series has confirmed a reshuffle to its schedule for the remaining rounds of the 2021 season.

The series will now run two rounds at Bathurst and one in Tailem Bend as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.

As a result of the change in schedule, the format has also been adjusted to satisfy both competitors and Porsche fans across both events.

The revised Bathurst double round will see two 30-minute Carrera Cup races across the Thursday and Friday of the event, a 40-minute race on the Saturday and a 25-minute sprint as the precursor to the great race on Sunday morning.

The series then heads across the country straight after the round for the season finale at The Bend Motorsport Park to headline the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.

There, drivers will take part in three races for the weekend with a champion to be crowned at the conclusion of the race meeting.

That same weekend, Carrera Cup’s sister series, the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia will hold a double round with six races expected to make up the schedule.

Porsche Cars Australia’s Head of Motorsport, Troy Bundy was looking forward to a big conclusion to the 2021 season.

“With four massive races now scheduled across the Bathurst 1000 weekend, it not only offers significant exposure for our partners, teams and drivers, but also provides fans with a front row seat to the grand finale which will play out over two action packed weekends,” Bundy said.

“As both the Mobil Pro and Morris Finance Pro-Am Championships are still up for grabs and it’s going to be exciting to see who will emerge victorious at the end of these three remaining rounds.”

Cameron Hill currently leads the way in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia with 80 points separating him and Cooper Murray, although the latter is currently overseas contesting the Porsche Junior Global Shootout and is uncertain to return.

Due to Murray's unlikely absence, 2019 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia winner Harri Jones is now the biggest challenger to Hill with the Queenslander 91 points off the lead.
