The 2021 Wilunga Hill Climb takes place this weekend with a huge field of more than 130 competitors from around the state locked in to battile it out against one another.

Held at main road in Wilunga, 130 competitors will get four attempts at the 2.69km long track with each time tallying to an overall time, that will determine the winner.

Reigning champion Daniel Day will be back to defend his title in his Subaru STI as he looks to secure his fifth win at the event. Meanwhile 2020 runner-up Andrew Campbell will also be a part of the 130 drivers lining up on Sunday.

With conditions looking picture perfect, Event Manager Andrew Admiraal was expecting a big weekend of action.

“It’s a really lovely event, we’re going to have perfect weather, we’ve got a full field of 130 and we actually have a waiting list which has been a bit surprising in a good way,” Admiraal said.

“This particular event has been running for quite a number of years now, but never have we had so many on the waiting list, I guess that’s just an indication of people seeing a good quality in this event.

“The team is feeling quite excited, 22 degrees in Wilunga, 2.6km’s of gorgeous windy roads and I don’t think it could be set up any better.”

Apart from the heavyweights such as Day and Campbell, Admiraal said he was keen to look out for a few other drivers on the weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to watching Doug Johnson, he’s a really strong competitor and the other one is probably Nick Streckeisen, he is going to be really interesting to watch,” Admiraal added.

“The other thing I like looking into is the classes, you see some great drivers in the class fights and I’m really keen to watch them battle it out.

“We’re really grateful to the Wilunga township for the on-going support and we can’t wait for the event this weekend.”
