The Historic Racing Association will enter unfamiliar territory this weekend when it hosts a rare event in January.
 
Usually getting its season of motorsport underway in late February or early March, the club has jumped on the opportunity to host a rallysprint in the Victorian regional town of Boisdale this weekend.
 
Taking place at the town’s popular hill climb course, 21 competitors will battle it out on the two kilometre course of over six runs - three of which will go forward and three in reverse order.
 
While there will be no major names attending the rallysprint, there will still be plenty of individuals keen to get a win with Alpine Rally of East Gippsland Clerk of Course Owen Polanski headlining the entry list.
 
Outside of the unusual timeslot of January, the event will also be unique to some members due to its locations with the club last visiting Boisdale all the way back in 2016.
 
Event Secretary Liz Partington was looking forward to the event and believed that it would be an enjoyable day for those attending.
 
“The course has quite a few interesting variables with lots of hills and gullies around, so it will make for very good competition across the day,” Partington said.
 
“We don’t usually run events in January as the councils usually close the forests and we like to do rallies, however our Clerk of Course Graham Wallis put together the event and worked hard to get it organised.
 
“There haven't been many events for us over the past two years, so anytime we can do something, we will do it. So, while it is a bit abnormal for us to be doing something in January – it’s a welcome change.
 
“It probably explains why we don’t have too many competitors, as our members are probably more focused on our next major event in March, however there is still a good range of cars.
 
“From old school classics like the Datsun 1600s and Peugeot 306s to Skylines, Corollas. Excels and BMWs. There are some really interesting cars and I think it should be a fantastic day.”
 
Spectators are welcome to attend the event, with the action to get underway after 9:30am AEDT.
