After having been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, the 2022 Motorsport Australia Speed and Auto Test Championships will finally return in 2022.

All four events are scheduled to take place in the latter half of the year on four separate weekends, allowing competitors plenty of time to dust off the cobwebs and prepare accordingly.

The first event get the Speed and Auto test season underway will be the Motorsport Australia Khanacross Championship, which will be hosted by the Southern District Car Club SA and will take place on 10-11 September at the Mid Murray Motorplex.

The remaining three events will take place in October with the Motorsport Australia Motorkhana Championship, run by the Holden Sporting Car Club of Queensland, to be held on the first weekend of the month at Willowbank Raceway in Ipswich.

Two weeks later, the Australian Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) will hold the one-day Motorsport Australia Supersprint Championship at its home at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The final Championship event of the year will be the Motorsport Australia Hill Climb Championship, which takes place on the following weekend.

Taking place at the famous Mount Cotton, the MG Car Club of Queensland will welcome the country’s best hill climbers for the mammoth four-day hill climb and Event Secretary Annette Truscott was looking forward to the event.

“I think I speak on behalf of all the four clubs hosting the Motorsport Australia National Speed and Auto Tests this year when I say that we’re excited that we may actually get to run our events this year,” Truscott said.

“Of course time will tell, but we’re hopeful it will go ahead and we’re quite grateful that we have been once again given the opportunity to hold the national championship event despite the cancellations.

“We have already had some of the country’s top contenders indicate their desire to attend which is quite encouraging and I think the competition should be really interesting.

“Obviously there will be many who would have liked more time competing at Mount Cotton, so I encourage those wanting some extra experience to attend the Motorsport Australia Queensland Hill climb Championship in June.”

Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport and Commercial Operations Michael Smith was pleased the dates could be locked in.

“It’s been a difficult two years but I am confident all four events will go ahead this time around with the COVID situation looking much better as opposed to 2020 and 2021,” Smith said.

“I must pay credit to all four clubs hosting each event for their patience and their ability to be flexible in organising the dates for each championship.

“It’s going to be a busy little period around September and October and I am looking forward to seeing how each Championship transpires.”
