For the third consecutive year, the Cobb & Co Hotel St George 399 will have its highest number of crews ever participating in the event.

A record 96 crews have confirmed their place for the round, which will once again serve as the BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) season opener.

Originally 99 crews were listed to compete, however with the withdrawal of three crews, the total number entered sits at 96 – two more than the previous record of 94, which was set last year.

Of the 96 entered, 80 are registered for the AORC component of the event, while the remaining 16 are competing solely in the other Championship taking place in conjunction with the event – the Motorsport Australia Queensland Off Road Championship.

While St George will once again welcome almost 100 cars for the round, the quality of crews entered will certainly build interest to what could be the biggest AORC season in recent times.

No doubt, the most notable name on the entry list is nine-time AORC champion, Shannon Rentsch, who despite having spent two years developing his new Jimco has remarkably only missed two events and no championships.

Rentsch forms part of the 19-car Pro Buggy field that features a plethora of stars including one of the main contenders for this season’s title and last year’s St George 399 winner, Josh Howells.

Some of the other usual title contenders are entered into the event’s third biggest class - Extreme 2WD.

Part of the 15-car class is last year’s runner-up Greg Gartner, WA star Beau Robinson and Brett Comiskey, who had a busy off season selling his pro buggy to Jack Swinglehurst for a Trophy Truck.

Unsurprisingly, the largest class is the SXS Pro class with a huge turnout of 37 entrants as a number of crews contest both the AORC and the KINCROME SXS Motorsport Australia Championship.

Part of the 37-car field are the three most recent SXS title holders, including Simon Evans, Jackson Evans and the reigning champion in Stephen Henry – the latter to make his AORC debut later this month.

Crews entering the AORC component of the event will complete four sections throughout the weekend, with one on Saturday following the morning’s Top 10 shootout and the remaining three on Sunday.

All crews running solely in the state-championship will run three sections.

The 2022 Cobb & Co Hotel St George 399 takes place in St George on 18-20 March.
