Will Power leads this weekend's Aussies abroad.
NTT Indycar Series
Will Power has moved to second place in the NTT IndyCar Series after finishing fourth in the series’ most recent round, the Xpel 375.

With the second race of the season taking place at the famous Texas Motor Speedway for the first of three oval races, Power was highly consistent throughout the weekend, qualifying fourth.

When it came to the race, Power once again got plenty out of the Team Penske Chevrolet, leading the race for 20 laps and occupying the top five for much of the contest.

However he was made to work hard for fourth, holding off Scott Dixon for the position as less than one second separated the duo at the chequered flag.

Three-time Supercars champion and Power’s teammate Scott McLaughlin enjoyed another brilliant performance in his second year – having led the field for a race-high 183 laps.

Unfortunately he was unable to secure a second consecutive victory, falling short to fellow Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden by just seven tenths of a second in what was a thrilling end to the 248-lap race.

Despite losing the race victory on the last lap, McLaughlin’s second place saw him build is series lead over Power to 28 points.

The series continues next month with the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in California on 10 April.

IMSA SportsCar Championship
The US based sports car championship’s latest endurance race, the 12 Hours of Sebring, had multiple Australians contesting the event across multiple classes.

Matt Campbell, Cameron Shields, Josh Burdon and Scott Andrews were all in action over the weekend – with young gun Shields enjoying the best result of the four.

Racing for Performance Tech Motorsports alongside Rasmus Lindh and Dan Goldburg, Shields helped the team steer their Ligier JS P320 to a LMP3 podium and 15th overall.

Burdon on the other hand, was unable to replicate his fourth place from the championship’s opening round in January, with the Andretti Autosport Ligier JS P320 lasting just one lap.

The other two Australians were racing in the GT Daytona class but neither could get on the podium, Campbell and his teammates Mathieu Jaminet and Felipe Nasr steering the Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R to fifth in class and 20th overall.

Andrews came in at 32nd overall and seventh in class alongside Richard Heistand and Frankie Montecalvo in the VasserSullivan Lexus RC F GT3.

The next round of the championship will serve as a support category to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in California on 10 April.

FIA Formula 2 Championship
Jack Doohan and Calan Williams both started their 2022 campaigns in the FIA Formula 2 Championship’s first round in Bahrain, with both experiencing the highs and lows of racing.

The championship consists of a different format of just two-races per weekend and Doohan couldn’t have asked for a better start, securing pole position for the opening race.

With the top 10 grid reversed for the sole sprint race, Doohan started in 10th but couldn’t finish any higher, remaining 10th.

Although he received no points, Doohan still had the feature race to look forward to but an unfortunate error during a battle with eventual race winner Theo Pourchaire saw the 17-year-old forced to the pits for a second time to replace a front wing.

Dropping back down the field, Doohan managed to recover, scraping into the top 10 to receive a point.

It was a similar story for Williams, who had worked his way into fifth after starting in P12, however problems during his mandatory pit stop saw his front left tyre come loose – sending him to the back of the field.

Despite the difficult results, both drivers enjoyed many positives out of the season opener, ahead of the next round at Jeddah Corniche Circuit this weekend.
