PIARC to celebrate major milestone

Thursday 24 March, 2022
PIARC will celebrate its 70th anniversary in style this weekend.
The Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) will begin its 70th anniversary celebrations this weekend with a two-day action-packed invite-only event.

The event will feature a handful of different disciplines across the weekend to encompass everything associated with PIARC and showcase its diversity over the years.

With the actual anniversary of the inaugural General Meeting in 1952 on Saturday, the club will begin the weekend’s festivities at the famous Phillip Island Grand Prix with a supersprint.

A round of the Motorsport Australia Victorian Motorkhana Championship, a hill climb and Superkarts scratch races will also take place throughout the day.

On Sunday, the action continues with Formula 5000 and Formula Open (Libre) hitting the track. Other racing categories include Sedan racing with 2 Litre Sport Sedans and PIARC’s Combined Sedan category.

Accompanying the on-track action will be a number of off track activations, with a Show and Shine for Club Permit Plated vehicles and Cars of Special Interest, parade laps and a celebration function with all PIARC members.

Club President Nick Scarcella was looking forward to the weekend and celebrating 70 years of the club’s achievements.

“This event is a showcase of what the club has offered and archived over 70 years,” Scarcella said.

“To be able to have the support of the circuit to display what the club is all about is fantastic and rings true our club mantra of providing ‘access to motorsport’.

“This event is essentially acknowledging where we have come from and is a great opportunity for our members to relive the past and celebrate the future.

“The club runs all forms of international, national, state and club level motorsport and from initially building the circuit in 1952 and maintaining since then, we are very proud of what the club has achieved.

“There will be lots to celebrate over the weekend and I am sure there will be many more years of fun to come.”

The Phillip Island Auto Racing Club’s 70th Anniversary race meeting will take place at Phillip Island on 26-27 March.
